Motocross Pants with Pockets Reviews

Fox Legion LT

The Fox Legion LT pants look pretty sharp and are the quality that we’ve come to expect from Fox Racing.  They are made from 600D polyester with flex panels to ensure maximum comfort.  The vented zippers also aid in riding on hot days by letting a little more air into the pants.  Leather knee panels resist both heat and abrasion.

These pants also include a zippered pocket to hold items while you are out on the trail.  The zipper is a vertical zipper on the right leg.

Summary and Editor’s Rating

The Fox Legion LT pants look pretty sharp and are the quality that we’ve come to expect from Fox Racing.

4.3

Review

The Fox Legion LT pants have all the features that you would expect in a motocross pant.  Made with strong materials, strategic triple stitching, flex panels, and appropriately placed leather, these pants were designed with the rider in mind.

These pants are extremely comfortable.  The zippered vents on each leg makes it perfect for those warm days when you could use a little more air flow.

This is the weakest part of the pants.  While made from durable materials, many riders say that they tear easily.  This is surprising given that they are made from 600D polyester, but the pictures don’t lie.  There is no way to tell how hard the riders were riding when they tore their pants, but just be aware that this is a mark against them.

The price tier of these pants is not the lowest, but certainly accessible by most.  If you buy them in a Legion LT set, you get a better deal.

These pants are priced comparably with other pants in their class. They are not ridiculously expensive, and are a good value.

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Reasonably Priced
  • High Quality Materials

Cons

  • Mixed User Reviews
  • Durability

Fox Legion EX

The Fox Legion EX pants are a pant designed to be worn on the trail.  Made from Cordura Ripstop material, they include stretch panels for maximum comfort.  It should be noted that these pants are designed to be worn over your boots.

These pants have a single zippered pocket over the right thigh.

Summary and Editor’s Rating

Solid pants made from Ripstop and designed to be worn over your boots.

4.3

Review

The feature set on these pants is great.  Made from strong Cordura Ripstop, these pants are designed to resist the abrasions that are common, especially on trial riding.  Leather knee patches protect against both heat and abrasions.

These pants include an internal gaiter to keep grit and grime out of your pants.

They are designed to be worn over your boots, which is something that you need to keep in mind before you purchase these.  They are truly a trail riding pant.

These pants have 1 vertical pocket on the right leg next to the vent zipper.

Like the Legion LT, these pants were designed to be comfortable, including zippered vents to allow more airflow.

These pants get great user reviews.   The one ding was that some of the internal buttons on the gaiter were not sewn on as well as desired.   However, overall these pants get great reviews from their owners.

These pants are priced in the higher mid tier, and might cost more than your average rider would like to spend.

For this price tier, these pants are priced well.  If you want a good pair of trail riding pants for a fair price, definitely consider these.

FXR Clutch Offroad Pants

These FXR Pants look sharp, but aren’t all that cheap for what you are getting.  When we reviewed these, we were pretty disappointed by how it turned out.

Summary and Editor’s Rating

Look great, but overall pretty disappointing.

3.7

Review

These pants have all the basic features that you would expect for a pair of motocross pants with pockets.  They are missing some of the features that some of the other pants in this list have, namely the zippered thigh vents.

They have one zippered diagonal pocket on the left thigh.

These are comfortable pants.  They stretch very well.  They are a little tighter around the thighs than some of the other pants, but that could be good for you if your current pants are binding up when you move.

User Reviews are where these pants fall flat.  Users just don’t like how long they last.  The major problem seems to be with the leather knee patches which wear out markedly quicker than other pants of this style.

These are FXRs mid-range price point pants.  They are more than some users want to spend on a pair of pants.

For this price tier, they are priced well.  Not the cheapest in this price point, but not ridiculously expensive either.

These pants were a disappointment for us.  They look really sharp, but that is about it.  They are not as durable as we would like to see.

Pros

  • Styling
  • Comfort

Cons

  • Durability
  • Quality

Klim Dakar Pants

Klim is an upper price point brand.  They make very high quality stuff.  But that quality comes at a price that some users might not be willing to pay.

High Price Point, but if you can afford them they are an excellent choice!

4.1

Review

These pants have 2 zippered pockets, one on each thigh as well as air vents on the thigh.  Material is strategically placed to make sure they have maximum durability and comfort.  They are made out of 840 Cordura and include cow leather patches on the knees for heat and abrasion resistance.

These pants are very comfortable.  They are however thicker than most of the pants we are looking at.  They are made out of 840 Cordura which is going to be heavier and hotter.  This is somewhat offset by the vented legs.

People love these pants.  They rave about the quality that you can feel and the durability of the pants.  We had a hard time finding anyone with a bad thing to say about them.

The price point of these pants is high.  Most folks will probably not want to spend the money for a pair of pants like this.

These pants are not cheap.  They are priced comparably for the upper tier of pants, however are not a screaming deal.

Klim Mojave Pants

Klim is an upper price point brand.  They make very high quality stuff.  These pants are in the upper midrange tier of pants.  They are great quality at a reasonable price.

Summary and Editor’s Rating

Solid Sturdy Pants, people love these pants and they are a good price versus their competition.

4.3

Review

The Klim Mojave pants are a similar in construction to the Dakar pants review above, but don’t have the zippered vents.  They have 2 zippered pockets, one on each side.  Integrated 840 Cordura in the seat and legs ensures durability and stretch panels ensure comfort.

These pants are very comfortable.  They are ventilated enough for warm days, but keep in mind they are made from much higher quality material than some of the other pants we are looking at, which generally means heavier and hotter than some of the other options.

Like the Dakar pants, people love them.  They only ding we could find is that people wish they had pockets to add additional padding or armor.

These pants are in the upper mid-range tier.  It is going to be tough for some users to stomach the price.

Given the tier that they are in, they are priced reasonably well.  Not too expensive for an upper mid-range tier of pants.

Wear them as shorts, or wear them as pants. These versatile riding pants from O’Neal are a decent value, however there are better options.

4.3

Review

These pants are made from Denier fabrics and are designed to be worn over your boots.  They have built in ventilation and two zippered pockets, one on each thigh.

The pants also can be worn as shorts since the bottom part of each leg zips off.

These pants are comfortable and light weight, but still relatively heavy duty.  Stretch panels sewn in to help with mobility and an inner leg panel that resists against heat.

The fitment of these pants is different from other pants in this category. The waist is adjustable via a Velcro panel to ensure proper fit.  Some riders like this, some don’t.

In general, these pants received rave reviews from their owners.  The only downsides we could find is that some users aren’t in love with the waist adjustments.

These are in the upper bottom tier of pants.  Reasonably priced and accessible to most riders

Priced well for the price tier.  They are a little more expensive than others in this price range, but have great reviews.

Pros

  • Versatile
  • Value
  • Great Reviews

Cons

  • Lacks Zippered Vents
  • Fitment

Shift Racing Recon Pants

Here is another set of pants that can be used as shorts.  The Recon pants from Shift Racing are in the lower price range of pants and thus very accessible to most riders.  Keep in mind that these are an over the boot style pant.

This was the winner of the group. Great Value for the Feature Set!

4.6

Review

These pants are made of 600D fabric for the main materials.  They include the ability to zip off the bottom section of each leg to turn them into shorts.  Additionally, there is a leather inner knee panel to help protect against exhaust burns.

The reason these pants did not get 5 stars for features is the lack of zip ventilation and the pockets are cargo pockets with no zipper.

These are designed to be a relaxed fitting pair of motocross pants that are to be worn over the boot.   They have integrated stretch panels to help with mobility.

These pants get great reviews from their users.  The only complaints are the sizing is a little off for some people.

Additionally, people seem to expect a higher quality stitching than what is present, however for the price point these are a great option.

These pants are in the lower tier for pricing.  They should be affordable by almost every rider.

These pants are priced very aggressively compared to their competition.

For the price, these are a great option.  Overall they get a score of 4.4 / 5 since they have many of the same features of the more expensive pants, but are priced right.

Pros

  • Great Value
  • Feature Rich
  • Great Price

Cons

  • Lack of Zippered Vents

Thor Terrain Pants

The Thor Terrain pants are the Over The Boot Style pants offered by Thor.  They are generally good pants, however the sizing seems to be a little off so order a size larger.  This is especially important with an over the boot pant since the length seems to be a little off with these pants.

Sizing is a little weird for some users. I would check other options.

3.9

Review

The Thor Terrain pants are designed to be over the boot and come with several high end features.  They have 2 zippered pockets as well as an interior pocket.  They have YKK zippers which are some of the best you can get and have a standard closure.  The pants also feature a leather knee patch to prevent burns.

These pants are relatively comfortable.  The main issue with them seems to be the sizing, so if you decide to get these pants, remember to buy a size larger than you would normally.

These pants fall short from a user perspective.  They are prone to ripping at the seams and most users complain about the sizing being weird.

These pants are targeting the mid-range price wise.  They might be a little more expensive than the average rider would like.

The Thor Terrain pants are priced competitively with other options in this price class.

  • High End Features
  • Comfort

Cons

  • Prone to Rips

Troy Lee Designs Radius Pants

Troy Lee Designs is known for producing extremely high quality motocross gear.  But they are also know as being more expensive than most.  These pants are no different.  While not the most expensive pants on our list, they are up there.  They have made some modifications from their previous version of the Radius pants that really move the needle.

Summary and Editor Rating

Troy Lee Designs hit it out of the park with their 2.0 version of the pants.  The previous version did not have zippered pockets, but rather a cargo style pocket.  They fixed that with this version, and these pants get very high marks.

4.2

Review

These pants are designed to be extremely tough motocross pants with pockets.  They have 2 zippered leg vents and 2 zippered thigh pockets.  Everything you could ask for.  They are made from 600D main construction and 900D in the seat.  Instead of a leather knee patch these pants use Kevlar for the knee patch and leather for the inner leg to prevent against exhaust burns.

These pants are extremely comfortable, except some riders might think that they seem a little baggy.

Look, people love these pants.  The only flaw on them is that they are a little baggy and some users reported tearing.  These reports were not widespread, and may be a factor of how aggressively those users were riding.

These are a premium priced pants inline with the Klim pants.  They are going to be a little more than most riders will want to pay.

These motocross pants are priced competitively with the other pants at this price point.

  • Quality
  • Feature Rich
  • Great Reviews

Wrap Up

The pants we looked at cover the range from extremely inexpensive to pretty expensive.  We were actually surprised at the results after doing the analysis.  The pants that we thought would shine ended up towards the bottom of the list, and the pants we thought would flop rose to the top.

If you decide to get a pair of motocross pants with pockets, this list should help you get started.  As always, ride hard and stay safe out there!
