A while back, I started searching for the best dirt bike gear bag that I could find. I had simply had it with trying to find all of my stuff before heading out to the track or into the mountains to the trails. It seemed like I was spending an inordinate amount of time looking for all of my gear. Not to mention the back seat of my truck was littered with my helmet, boots, knee and neck braces, armor jacket, and jerseys. Ultimate I landed on the O’Neal TX8000 gear bag.
Believe it or not, it is not that easy to find a good quality dirt bike gear bag simply because of the sheer mass of things that I had to transport. If you think about it, try and stuff a helmet into a backpack. Unless it is a huge backpack, it’s probably not going to fit.
Most of the “gear bags” on the market will either hold a helmet and your other stuff, or boots and your other stuff, but are too small to hold your boots, helmet, and all your other stuff.
O’Neal TX8000 Dirt Bike Gear Bag
This bag is massive. It is about 18”x18” on the ends and around 3 feet long, for a total of 8000cu of space. There are an adequate number of pockets, but in reality, this is designed to carry gear, not organize it.
It is made out of 600 denier polyester and has very nice strong zippers. This bag was designed for durability, but ultimately is a basic, huge, duffle bag. On each end, it has a zippered pocket for a boot (one boot per end), which helps keep all the dirt from your boots away from the rest of your gear. It has one smaller external pocket as well.
If you are looking for something to organize all of your gear, this is probably not it. But, if you are looking for something that you don’t have to treat very well, that will carry all of your gear and some lunch, then this is the bag for you.
Factory FMX Dirt Bike Gear Bag
Factory FMX bag is a little smaller than the O’Neal bag, but still had plenty of room to carry all of your gear. Boots, Helmet, Clothes, protection gear, etc will all fit in this bag without a problem.
One of the nice features of this bag is that it has a good number of specially designed pockets. On the outside, it has 3 pockets for your gloves, your goggles, and anything else. It also has a specialty sealed pocket designed to hold your wallet, cellphone, etc. On each end it has a zippered boot pocket to keep one boot per end. This helps keep all of the boot grime away from the rest of your gear.
One of the downsides of this bag is that some users say that it doesn’t hold up as well as they would have hopped. Tearing along the zipper seams seems to be a common issue. I am sure that if you take care of this bag it will last you a long time though.
If you are looking for a bag that will help you organize your gear, and you take care of your stuff, then this is probably the bag for you. It comes in three different colors as well so you might be able to get it to match the rest of your gear.
This was a pretty quick round up because there just aren’t a ton of options out there that meet all the requirements that I think most people are looking for when they are looking for a dirt bike specific gear bag. My requirements were that it carry everything, not just a subset of my gear. There are plenty of smaller gear bags out there that will keep most of your stuff, but you will have to either keep your boots or your helmet separate. Get organized, get out on your dirt bike, and stay safe!
